Inspired by the ideals and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother a group of devotees of Salt Lake, Kolkata, started an Association named Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education with a view to spreading their message in all spheres of society. This Association was registered under West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961.As part of their initiatives the Association established this school, bearing the same name, in 1983 at BK Block, Sector – II, Salt Lake. Subsequently the school was extended to CL Block on two bighas of land. At present classes I through Class XII are held in this new building, named Miranka, whereas the Nursery, Lower & Upper Kindergarten classes are held in the BK Block building. The medium of instruction is English. The School is managed by the Association through a Governing Body that functions as its executive wing.

The primary aim of the school is comprehensive development of the personality and character of the students as envisaged by Sri Aurobindo & the Mother, besides providing formal education as per the syllabi approved by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, which the school is affiliated with. OUR VISION: The Institute strives to develop and transform our students into outstanding citizens of India and the world through an integral programme which aims at making them self-confident persons of character with basic skills and knowledge imbued with creative, humane and leadership qualities. The programme helps inculcate in the students the essence and spirit of India’s ageless ethical, moral and spiritual values, especially those emphasized by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, while building a strong foundation to excel in all fields of their future activities. OUR MISSION: To propagate the ideal that “The aim of education is not to prepare a man to succeed in life and society, but to increase his perfectibility to its utmost”. To encourage students to develop creativity, original thinking, analytical skills and self-esteem from a very tender age. To help the students develop their academic capabilities and communication skills to the best of their abilities. To develop capabilities for hands-on-work, problem solving, team work and independent thinking. To recognize and nurture specially talented students to excel in their desired field of activities. To promote ethical, moral and spiritual values in the students. To promote assimilation of knowledge, information and desirable cultural traits of other nations, but not blind imitation. To develop the character-building traits in students, such as love and compassion, respect (shraddha), honesty, truthfulness, kindness, modesty & humility and non-violence.
