Each Sainik School has a different date for the start of the scholarship application process. Here are some tentative key dates that parents should know to avail scholarship benefits for their wards:

• For the Himachal Pradesh Sainik School Scholarship Scheme, the deadline falls between August and September each year. 

• For a national-level Scholarship process linked to Sainik Schools, the application period might start tentatively in the 1st week of November. 

• Some Sainik Schools, like Sainik School Kapurthala, tentatively start the Ministry of Defence Scholarship application process in May. 

• The online application process for some UP Sainik Schools scholarships likely begins in the 3rd week of September and ends in the 3rd week of October.

Types of Sainik School Scholarship

There are mainly 3 types of Sainik School scholarships available to students studying in Sainik Schools:

Defence Scholarship

Defence scholarships at Sainik Schools are for children of serving or ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy, or Air Force. The scholarship amount depends on the parent's rank, with full scholarships for Non-Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks, and half for Junior Commissioned Officers. The Ministry of Defence awards them the scholarship based on a valid PPO and Sainik School Entrance Exam performance. Merit/ Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship

These scholarships reward students based on AISSEE academic performance and parental income. Merit scholarships need good academic results regardless of income, while merit-cum-means require income under a set limit. They cover tuition, dietary, and incidental fees, and sometimes clothing.

Many states, like Odisha, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, give scholarships to cadets who are from their state. Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) Educational Grant

The Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat (KSB), under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, gives financial assistance to the wards and widows of ex-servicemen (ESM). The organisation supports children at the school level through education grants. Sainik School students who are dependent children of Ex-Servicemen up to the rank of Havaldar (and equivalent ranks in Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard) can only avail this grant. How to Apply for Sainik School Scholarship?

Parents and students can check the step-by-step process below to successfully apply for scholarships at Sainik Schools:

• Find out which scholarship applies to your school. It can be a State Government scholarship, a Defence scholarship, an Income-based scholarship, or a Merit-based scholarship. Each Sainik School and state has its own schemes.

• Check the eligibility rules carefully. Look at the state domicile requirement, the yearly income limit of parents, the caste category (if needed), whether parents are serving or retired defence personnel, and the marks required in academics.
