Sainik School entrance exam, officially called All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE), is a written, pen-and-paper-based offline test conducted by the NTA for admission to Sainik Schools. Admissions are only provided for Classes 6 and 9. For Class 6, candidates must be 10-12 years old as on March 31, 2026 (born between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2016). Sainik School Admission Online Application Form has begun from October 10, 2025 and the last date to apply is October 30, 2025, till 5 PM. Exam fee payment last date is October 31, 2025, till 11:50 PM. 

For Class 9, the age should be 13-15 years as of March 31, 2026. Students must also have passed Classes 5 or 8 for admission to Classes 6 and 9, respectively. The Sainik School entrance exam paper duration is 2.5 hours for Class 6 and 3 hours for Class 9.

Sainik School AISSEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

It’s important for parents to first know whether their children are eligible for the Sainik School entrance exam before applying for the same. 

  •  For Sainik School entrance exam 2026-27 class 6, candidates must be 10 to 12 years old as of March 31, 2026 (born between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2016) and must have passed Class 5 from a recognised school. Both boys and girls can apply. 

  • For Sainik School entrance exam 2026-27 class 9, students must be 13 to 15 years old as of March 31, 2026 (born between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2013) and must pass Class 8. Both boys and girls can apply, but seats for girls are very limited at traditional Sainik Schools.

Sainik School Entrance Exam Form

Sainik School application form filling is expected to begin between the 1st week of November 2026 and the 3rd week of December 2026. It’s an online form which is released on the official portal, exams.nta.nic.in/sainik-school-society/. Registered candidates will be able to fill out the Sainik School entrance exam form for class 6 & class 9 using their application number and password. The application number will be auto-generated at the time of registration, and candidates will receive it in their registered email IDs. 

How to Fill Sainik School Admission Online Application Form 2026-27?

Parents can check the steps below to fill out the Sainik School application form online:

  • Students must first do the Sainik School entrance exam registration online on the official NTA Sainik School Society's website to be eligible to fill out the online form.

  • The registration notification will likely be released between the 1st week of November and the 3rd week of December 2025.

  • To register, visit the above-mentioned official website and scroll below to find and click on the "Registration for AISSEE-2026 Examination" option.

  • Register using a unique email ID and mobile number to get an application number.

  • Use the application number, password, and PIN to log in and fill out the application form.

  • The last date to submit the Sainik School AISSEE application form is October 30, 2025, up to 5 PM . 

  • Upload required documents and pay a tentative fee of Rs 950 (General/OBC/Defence) or Rs 800 (SC/ST) online via SBI Payment Gateway.

  • Print the confirmation page after payment as proof.

Sainik School Entrance Exam Documents Required

Candidates can check the list of documents required during the AISSEE 2026 application form filling:

  • A clear scanned photo of the candidate in JPG format. The file size should be between 10 KB and 200 KB.

  • A scanned signature of the candidate in JPG format. The file size should be between 10 KB and 50 KB.

  • A scanned left-hand thumb impression in JPG format. The file size should be between 10 KB and 50 KB. If the left thumb is not available, use the right thumb.

  • Scanned copy of the Date of Birth Certificate issued by a valid authority.

  • Scanned Domicile Certificate.

  • Scanned Caste/Community/Category Certificate, if applicable

  • Certificate of Service if the candidate belongs to the Defence category and a PPO for Ex-servicemen, if needed.

  • Certificate from the Principal saying that the candidate is studying at an approved New Sainik School, if applicable.

  • All certificates should be uploaded as PDF files with file sizes between 50 KB and 300 KB.

Sainik School Entrance Exam Pattern

The Sainik School entrance exam is held in offline mode as a pencil-and-paper test. Students must mark their answers on an OMR sheet for both Class 6 and Class 9. The Sainik School Class 6 exam has four subjects: Language, Mathematics, Intelligence, and General Knowledge. Maths has 50 questions, while each of the other three subjects has a weightage of 25 marks. 

The Sainik School Class 9 exam includes five subjects: Mathematics, Intelligence, English, General Science, and Social Science. In this case, Mathematics carries 50 marks, and the remaining subjects carry 25 marks each. The AISSEE exam duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes for Class 6 and 3 hours for Class 9. Admit Card of Sainik School Entrance Exam 2026

The AISSEE 2026 admit card will be released in the 2nd or 3rd week of January 2026, about 8–10 days before the exam, on exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE. Candidates must login with their application number and date of birth to download it, as NTA does not send admit cards by post. Students should carefully check the exam centre, location, and timing printed on the card.

  • NTA does not send the admit card by post.

  • Candidates must not damage, deface, or change any entry on the admit card.

  • Candidates should keep the admit card safe for future use.

  • NTA will not issue admit cards to candidates with incomplete applications, unclear photos, missing signatures, or those who do not meet eligibility rules.

  • Getting an admit card does not mean final acceptance of eligibility. NTA will check this again during later stages of the admission process.

The medium of instruction would be English only for the Class 9 AISSEE 2026 exam. For the Sainik School Entrance Exam 2026-27, class 6, the medium of exam can be chosen from 13 languages as mentioned below:

Sainik School Entrance Exam Answer Key 2026

The NTA will most likely upload the Sainik School entrance exam 2026 answer key for Classes 6 and 9 about 27–30 days after the exam date on the official NTA Sainik School Society's portal. The provisional Sainik School Answer key will likely be released in the 2nd or 3rd week of February 2026. Candidates can check their answer key, and if they find any mistakes, they can challenge it within 2–3 days by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 200 for each question.

Subject experts review all the objections. If the experts find the objections correct, they make changes in the final answer key. NTA does not tell students directly whether their challenge was accepted or not, but the corrected final answer key is used to prepare the Sainik School entrance exam result.

Sainik School Entrance Exam Result 2026

The Sainik School entrance exam 2026 result date will likely be released in the 4th week of February or 1st week of March. Students who pass the AISSEE exam can take part in the counselling round, which will likely start in the 2nd week of March 2026. The entire AISSAC counselling will happen online. After getting a seat, students must attend the medical test. If a student skips or fails the medical test, his or her admission will be cancelled.
