Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb

Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb

Founder

In the tumultuous times of 1947 when families were being uprooted, Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb was scouting for land he could buy and build schools for the thousands of Muslims and other sections of society that stood on the brink of being consigned to the darkness of illiteracy, and political, socio-economic subservience. Poverty was staring them in the eyes. Hakeem Saheb knew that without modern education these economically deprived masses would remain caught in the vicious circle of abject poverty. Modern education was needed so that the coming generations would step out into the world with the educational empowerment which would put them at par with others. Hakeem Saheb could feel the pain and sufferings of humanity, and had decided to use his God given resources to set up institutions of learning so that the coming generations could become educated and participate in nation building.
His foresight and vision saw him buying land in 1947 in what was then a foresaken forested area but is now an overcrowded locality known as Sangam Vihar. On this land Janab Hakeem Saheb laid the foundation of the Hamdard Education Society in 1981 as a charitable society registered under the Registrar of Societies Act of 1860. This haloed campus was aptly named Talimabad. Hamdard Education Society, also known as HES has evolved as the apex body that runs Hamdard Public School and several other schools, and residential coaching centres. It is one of the premier NGOs in the country concerned primarily with the education of minorities, rebuilding the nation through participation in civil administration, and the country-wide survey of Muslim managed schools and colleges. Hakeem Saheb also took up research activities establishing the Hamdard Charitable Trust in 1948 and the Hamdard National Foundation in 1964. He also established the Hamidia Charitable Hospital now known as the Hakeem Abdul Hameed Centenary Hospital, and the Jamia Hamdard. He realized the importance of education for the girl child, and established the Rabea Girls Public School in 1973 in Old Delhi.
Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb’s motto was austerity, simple living and selfless service. He was polite, courteous and compassionate while dealing with people. A god-fearing person, and a philanthropist, Hakeem Saheb left for his heavenly abode in 1999 leaving his indelible footprints for us to follow.
Janab Saiyid Hamid

Janab Saiyid Hamid

Co Founder

Janab Hamid Saheb was not only an adept administration and a civil servant, but also a great educationist.. He served the Provincial Civil Services in the then United Provinces from 1943 to 1949, and thereafter, at the Centre, in various central ministries in different capacities with distinction. When he retired in 1980, he was entrusted with the Vice-Chancellorship of Aligarh Muslim University, his Alma Mater, a responsibility that he fulfilled with grit, skill and grim determination.
Janab Abdul Hameed Saheb’s vision and farsightedness had a everlasting influence on Hamid Saheb, and both joinied hands with to establish the Hamdard Education Society (HES) and the Jamia Hamdard. Janab Hamid Saheb wanted to see an increasing number of youth from the minority sections of our society taking part in the national civil administration. With this mission in mind, he, with the active encouragement of Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb, established a small residential coaching centre in Talimabad to prepare candidates for the Indian civil services examination. He started this endevour in 1991, and 1992 saw success of the first batch of Hamdardians as Indian civil servants. The tiny acorn Janab Hamid Saheb planted has grown into a mighty oak known far and wide as the Hamdard Study Circle. Till date it has sent candidates to the Indian Civil Services.
Throughout his life his heart and soul continued to be preoccupied education. Janab Hamid Saheb was a person who could extrapolate to the consequences of current information when these were not obvious to others around him. He knew that the community could not progress if girls did not acquire modern education, and laid a great emphasis on education of the girl child.
On 29 of December, 2014, as the sun was drawing the curtain on the day, Janab Hamid Saheb sailed out of the safe harbor on a silent tide leaving his family and relations, contemporaries, acquaintances, well wishers and those who had even merely heard about him mourning the irreparable loss.

‘Intelligence plus Character is the goal of Education’
Hamdard always believes in value based education which alone can bring about transformation. We as educators try our best to impart holistic education in our institution as it is said that values are caught not taught.
The world in which we live has witnessed rapid changes during the last 20 years at a mind boggling speed. The mass media, information technology and the internet have brought about cataclysmic changes in the family, social and moral life. These changes have far reaching consequences on both education and educational institutions. If the students have to face the new world they need to be equipped with the basic skills - reading, writing, computing and the language of communication. If we can help the children to be meditative we can change the whole world, its energy, its consciousness. This would prevent their energy from moving into wrong channels, diverting them to the right path.
We need to make ourselves effective, efficient and informed communicators with a broad spectrum of interest that our students can see in us as role models with character, competence and commitment. We, as educators, need to instil in them the sense of quality and self-motivation.
The mission of the school is ‘all round individual development of a child’. For this we need not only be mere instructors but learned, committed and devoted educationists. Our focus is primarily on preparing them to be worthy citizens, refined in heart and mind, skilled to earn their daily bread and steady legs to follow intelligently, the great ideals and values of life. Let our education move from school curriculum to co-curricular;
Saher M. A. Sayed
from knowledge to wisdom; from competition to cooperation; from division to unity; from selfishness to generosity and finally from ‘how to earn a livelihood’ to ‘how to live’. Let us create in them positive self-image and self esteem by way of appreciation, recognition, love and care which will be most precious wealth and the true source of real happiness.
I am thankful to the management, staff, parents and well-wishers who supported us in performing our functions as educators. I am confident that all of you will continue to contribute in forming the character of our children in the most perfect way with the help of the Almighty.
May we all strive towards excellence, be thankful and teach the quality of giving, discipline and basic values in the children while preparing them academically for their future.
I humbly look forward to the unconditional support from the members of the school community in all our future endeavours.
God Bless!
