Welcome to the La Martiniere for Boys Website. La Martiniere for Boys was established in 1836 by Major General Claude Martin, a Frenchman. It is one of the best Boys Schools in the country, with more than 3,800 students from Lower Nursery to Class XII, and is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Examinations, New Delhi. La Martiniere for Boys has evolved in its journey striving always to fulfill the vision of its Founder, in providing value-based holistic education to the youth, to make them responsible and worthy citizens of our nation. Spread over acres in the heart of Kolkata,La Martiniere for Boys offers all the amenities for 21st-century learning. Education here is not limited to books, the school has always encouraged community service, and creative pursuits through numerous co-curricular activities, sports, and games. The pupils graduate to contribute in the larger arenas of the world doing their Alma Mater proud.

Founder
In 1752, a 17 - year old Frenchman named Claude Martin came to India as a humble private in the armies of the East India Company. But Claude Martin was no ordinary soldier of fortune. He rose rapidly to the rank of Major General and also spent many years in the service of Shuja-ud-daulah, the Nawab of Oudh. By the time of his death in September 1800, he had amassed property worth over half a million pounds sterling.
When he learnt that the La Martiniere Schools were in deep financial distress and on the verge of closure, he sent his Alma Mater a generous donation of Rs. 6 lakhs in 1925 and Rs. 5 lakhs the following year.
However, Claude Martin was a man of vision and he left generous endowments to start schools in Lucknow, Kolkata and in Lyon, in his native land of France. La Martiniere Schools, Kolkata, were the result of his desire to start an educational institution for the “public good of the town of Calcutta.”

La Martiniere (informally known as LMC) is an elite, independent private day school located in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal. It comprises two single-gender boys and girls schools. It was established in 1836 in accordance with the will of the French soldier of fortune and philanthropist, Major General Claude Martin. They are Christian schools, controlled by the Anglican Church of North India and independent from the government, with English as the primary language of instruction.[1][2]La Martiniere Calcutta is often ranked among the best day schools in the country,[3] and has produced a distinguished list of alumni in all walks of Indian and British society. It has an annual meet with La Martiniere Lucknow hosted in September, as well as occasional meets with its sister school La Martiniere Lyon in France.
