St. Mary's High School, Mount Abu, was founded in 1887 and later entrusted to the Congregation of Christian Brothers in India (CCBI) in 1929. It is one of many Edmund Rice Institutions in India, guided by the values and educational philosophy of Blessed Edmund Rice. The CCBI is a registered society under the Society Registration Act and operates its Head Office in New Delhi.
A Legacy of Education
Originally known as the Mount Abu Railway School (MARS), the school was designed by Mr. Blood, the Engineer-in-Chief of BB & CI Railway. It was initially established to serve the children of European and Anglo-Indian railway staff. By 1902, it became known as Abu High School, a private institution no longer affiliated with the railway services.
In 1929, the Irish Christian Brothers took over the administration. Brothers G.A. Cooney, J.S. Jokim, and P.C. Hart began conducting classes on March 4 with 19 boarders and 3 day scholars—marking the beginning of a transformative journey in education and character building.
