You are requested to contact the school during the third or fourth week of August to get details about the entrance examination, which is conducted in the month of January.

Boys are Girls are admitted in Class VI and Class IX Only.

The eligibility conditions are as follows:

(a) Class VI – Boys and girls who are more than 10 years and less than 12 years of age as on 31st March of the year in which admission is sought.

(b) Class IX – Boys and girls who are more than 13 years and less than 15 years of age as on 31st March of the year in which admission is sought. The candidate must be studying in Class VIII in a recognized school at the time of appearing for the Sainik School Entrance Examination.

Please note that relaxation in the age limit is not permissible under any circumstances.

About Us

Sainik School Sambalpur is the 33rd Sainik School in the country and the second in the state of Odisha. It was inaugurated by Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, on 27th February 2015. The new building and infrastructure were developed within five years.

The concept of Sainik Schools was conceived by Shri V.K. Krishna Menon, the Defence Minister of India, in the early 1960s. He believed that establishing a school with the fundamentals of a military way of life in each state would significantly contribute to building a strong foundation for intake of cadets into the National Defence Academy (NDA). As a result, Sainik Schools were established across various states.

Sainik School Sambalpur operates under the purview of the State Government of Odisha and the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and is administered by a Local Board of Administration. The school focuses on the holistic development of its students while imparting quality education and installing a sence of patriotism in them. Presently, the school houses its first batch of 100 cadets.

Sambalpur is the fifth-largest city in the Indian state of Odisha. Located on the banks of the Mahanadi River, it is one of the most ancient places in India, with recorded settlements dating back to the prehistoric age. Sainik School Sambalpur, set in a picturesque location surrounded by hills and lush greenery, spans an area of 105 acres in the Basantpur region, approximately 20 km from Sambalpur City. The nearest railway station is 18 km from the school. Additionally, the school is in close proximity to the Hirakud Dam, which is built across the Mahanadi River.
