About Mar Thoma Residential School

Mar Thoma Residential School was founded in 1974 by the Mar Thoma Educational Agency, Tiruvalla, Kerala, India, which is a charitable body registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955. The Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church is the Patron of the Society. The school started functioning with three teachers and eighteen pupils. From such humble beginning, the school has had a phenomenal growth. At present, it has 83 teachers and over one thousand six hundred pupils on the rollThe school has excellent facilities for ideal residential education. Our class rooms have a manageable strength of 35 students each.The school has the best Library in this part of the State with over 25000 volumes of books and almost all the leading magazines / journals in English, Hindi and Malayalam. The school subscribes to all leading Newspapers in English and Malayalam.The school also has a Junior Library specially for the primary section. Computer Education has been given added impetus with the addition of a new Junior Lab with 10computers in addition to the modern Computer Lab with 35 Computers for Senior classes. Computer awareness programme is incorporated into the curriculum for Classes I to VIII. For Std. IX -XII Computer Science is one of the optional subjects. Computeraided Education is one of the goals to which the school is committed.The school has separate hostels for Boys and Girls, full time Wardens and Ayahs are available to take care of children. Resident Teachers supervise the study hours and other activities of the hostels. Weak students are given special coaching by staff. Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian food is provided in a healthy and hygienic environment. Parents are strictly advised not to bring any food or snacks for the boarders. We have a well equipped Health Care Centre where students can avail the services of a qualified nurse. All boarders regularly attend the Sunday worship at the Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Kuttappuzha.Family prayers are held in Hostels. A combined worship service is held on Saturdays in the evening. Sunday School classes are also conducted for boarders.The school also makes arrangements and prepares students for the Service of the First Communicants. Normally, boarders are allowed to go home once in a month on second Saturdays. Children can be visited by parents, guardians or relatives between 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm on week days and between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm on weekends. However, parents and guardians are advised to keep such visits to the minimum. Parents must give a full list of the persons who are authorized to visit the children. Children are not allowed to keep money in any form as well as jewellery or any other valuables. Boarders should bring the following articles all properly marked for easy identification. All pieces of clothing must have the pupils initials stitched in coloured thread. Three copies of the complete list of articles belonging to the pupil will be required at the time of admission, and at the beginning of each year. One to be put on the pupil’s locker, one for the warden and the third for the parent or guardian. All copies will be attested by the wardens in charge of the hostels. All articles must be taken home at the end of the year.
