S S SahneyHigh School was the vision of SardarSant Singh Sahney. He was a philanthropist and recognised the value of education. He wanted a permanent institution for the people of Khar and therefore decided to build a school under the SardarRamsinghLakshmidevi Charitable Trust dedicated to his parents. Mr Sahney entrusted the responsibility to his eldest daughter-in-law HanwantBirKaur and made her the executive founder of the School. The School opened on 7th June 1971. Mrs HanwantBir sat on the Principal’s chair and admitted her three year old son Devesh as the first student. She paid the admission fees and issued the first receipt. Her family applauded and within one hour five more children were enrolled. The piano teacher Mrs Pontus then started teaching nursery rhymes to the six children. It was a momentous occasion. Today, Aarti Sahney, wife of Devesh is in-charge of the School. As a seed sown nurtures into a tree care so has the school grown with hard work, dedication and commitment made by Mrs HanwantBir to her father-in-law and today this is a full fledged school. Mrs HanwantBir is now looking ahead to take it to the next level and make it a Junior College. Mrs HanwantBir still takes keen interest in the day to day running of the school and giving valuable guidance to the staff. She still comes to the school as she has been doing for the past four decades. It has been a long journey from six to twelve hundred children. Mrs Sahney has put in tremendous efforts to obtain approvals from government authorities to start the primary section and then taking the school upto the SSC Board level. Mrs Hanwantbir Kaur Sahney has now handed over the Baton t Mrs Aarti Sahney who follows in her footsteps and intends to take the School to a higher level under with her guidance and support.
