Withdrawal Policy

St. Joseph’s publishes a clear withdrawal and transfer certificate policy, which is as follows:

  • Every application for a Transfer Certificate must be made on the prescribed form.

  • The application must be made by the person responsible for the pupil, not by the pupil herself.

  • The application submitted to the school office must carry the signatures of both parents. The school states this is compulsory.

  • Transfer Certificates will not be issued until all dues to the school have been paid.

  • Students absent from school for more than a month without notice are struck off the rolls and will not be readmitted.

  • Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, disobedience, or conduct injurious to the moral tone of the school are sufficient grounds for dismissal.

Life at School

Life at St. Joseph’s is structured and discipline-led, and the school is explicit about it. The day begins with assembly, and gates close at the assembly bell. Electronic gadgets, magazines and storybooks are prohibited and confiscated. Birthday celebrations with cakes or gifts are not permitted in school. Irregular attendance, unjustified absence or disrespect towards teachers are stated causes for dismissal.

Uniform standards are set out in detail: clean and well-pressed uniform daily, blazers for high school students on Mondays, sports uniforms on Wednesdays and Saturdays, shirts and blouses tucked in, and shoes polished daily.

Beyond the classroom, the school hosts four houses, namely St. Agnes, St. Joseph, St. Dominic Savio and St. Theresa — driving competition and camaraderie, each carrying a named value. Sports and Games run with morning and evening practices in hockey, volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi. The Literary Club covers storytelling, poetry, elocution, creative writing, Spell Bee, and Debate.

About Us

St. Joseph's Convent High School is a Christian minority institution on Whitefield Main Road, Bengaluru, run as a unit of the Jeevan Dhara Trust by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes. It is one of the oldest schools in Whitefield, having been founded on 9 January 1933.

The congregation behind it was founded in 1843 in France by six young women who shared a profound spiritual experience and dedicated themselves to educating children and caring for the sick. Their missionary work brought them to India in 1882, and they extended their mission to Whitefield in response to an appeal by Rev. Fr. A. Levelle. Sr. Marie Martha, Sr. Marie Patrick, Sr. Marie Teresita, Sr. Maria Vincentia, Sr. Maria Joanna, and Marie Prescilla laid the foundation.

The school works under the motto of Light to Enlighten, which basically means seekers of the truth, walking the path of light to dispel darkness. The school’s vision is to impart an education that enables every child to become an integrated human being, developing intellectually, morally, spiritually, and socially, in order to build a just, harmonious, and unified society.

Its mission is to create a school community where every member contributes their share to building an integrated India and a more united world.

The school believes in three core objectives. They are:

  • Full Human Effectiveness: Enabling every child to become the person she is meant to be and inculcating values leading to God.

  • Enlightened Commitment: Helping every person become an agent of justice, peace, and love in society.

  • Option for the Poor: Making the school’s education available to the poorer sections in the neighbourhood.

The school is currently transitioning to the ICSE curriculum. Principal Sr Malar Joseph describes this as an exciting new chapter, coming alongside upgraded infrastructure and modern teaching methods, and commits the school to strong academic excellence, sports, music and the arts, character formation rooted in compassion and integrity, environmental awareness, and safe, joyful spaces where every child feels valued.

For families in Whitefield wanting an established, value-led convent school with a strong academic reputation, a disciplined culture, and an affordable fee, this could be a good option.
