About KV Picket, Secunderabad
Kendriya Vidyalaya Picket came in to existence on 1st July 1964 when Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan took over the Air force School in Picket. The students and teachers of the feeding school were absorbed into KVS. The school made a humble beginning with about 50 students in classes VI to IX and ten teachers. There was no primary wing. Some of the teachers who helped in the grooming of the Vidyalaya in the initial stages are Mrs. Padmaja, Mr. Ashwath Narayana, Mr. ALN Rao, Mrs. Premlata Reddy and Mrs. Pramila Venugopal. There were a lot of problems in the initial stages as the 1st Principal Mr. Shanker struggled for the Vidyalaya. A little later, the students of a nearby Zilla Parishad school were absorbed in to KV Picket. Things began to look up from July 65 when Mr. Sukumaran took over as the Principal. Under his able guidance the school grew in strength, and quality and came to be known as one of the prestigious schools of Secunderabad. He introduced the Primary wing and started the Tarband branch in 1965. KV Picket got its own building in February 1969 which exists as the old block. The school started working in shifts in the initial stages, with the primary in the mornings and classes VI to XI in the afternoons. As per the practice in those days, children were diversified in to science and humanities streams at class IX itself.
An important milestone in the history of KV Picket was celebrating the Sports Day in the parade grounds in the year 1968. Brig. Syed, Chairman of the Vidyalaya was so impressed with the sports day celebrations of that year that he gifted 7 acres of land to KV Picket. It is in that very seven acres of land that we are sitting right this moment and which is popularly known as the new block. There was no looking back since then. The school had the breathing space that allowed it bloom in to one of the biggest schools in the twin cities and one of the biggest Kendriya Vidyalayas in the entire Hyderabad region. During the tenure of Principal Mehta there were numerous activities in various fields like sports and CCA. The activities were taken up as projects with a lot of involvement from teachers as well as students. Principal Mehta also pioneered the pentangular meet for various activities. The schools involved in this meet are HPS Begumpet and Ramachandrapuram, KV Golconda, KV Tirumalagiri and Picket. The school started the +2 level in the new block in the year 1987 during the tenure of Principal Mr Jayanti Suryanarayana. There were five sections in class XI and XII. Sections A,B,C, were for science streams, D was for Commerce and E for the humanities. E section was unusual in the sense that it offered training in life insurance. Principal V. Satyanarayana’s innovative ideas and hard work brought many laurels to the institution. The school is also indebted to Principals Mr. Dutta and Mr. Prabhakar Raju for valuable and selfless service. The school upgraded the senior labs to meet the needs of the changing curriculum. Computer Lab was set up with the introduction of the computer science. During the tenure of Principal Annapurna, the school was recognized as a model school. The new block has got its first floor and shifted classes VI-IX from the old block. The school has added another feather in its cap by introducing Biotechnology as one of the options at the +2 level in the year 2003.
Growth of no educational institution can ever be defined in terms of buildings/ play grounds or an increase in the strength of students/teaching faculty alone. It is mainly on the basis of the growth of the children as students their excellence in academics/ sports and fine and performing arts. Ex Picketians have been serving the nation as doctors, engineers, academicians and various other fields. Our teachers are not any less than our students when it comes to achievements. Many incentive awards were bestowed on the teachers of Picket. KV Picket is the only school where a satellite channel has been set up. We also have our own website.
All this is only the beginning. KV Picket has to go miles before it sleeps. The staff and students will not be satisfied till KV Picket achieves recognition at international level. Our Alumni Association has already begun to work in this direction. The day is not far with excellent students and dedicated staff & support of higher authorities and VMC we aim at 100% quantitative and qualitative results with more than 50% of them aiming at distinction. We have created history. Now we are going to make our future. We shall march ahead to make sure that KV Picket and Hyderabad region to their Zenith
