Age Criteria For Class 1 Admission in Delhi 2026-27

For the academic session 2026-27, Delhi schools will continue following the current age structure, as the new 6+ rule will come into effect later. Thus, to be eligible for Class 1 admission in 2026-27, your child must be:

• At least 5 years old and not older than 6 years as of 31 March 2026
• Born between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021

If you’re applying for Class 1 admission in 2026-27, your child will continue under the current pattern, which means:

• Your child will join Class 1 in 2026-27 at 5+ years (born between 1 Apr 2020 and 31 Mar 2021).
• In 2027-28, they’ll move to Class 2, and so on; they will face no change or delay.
• The new 6+ age rule for Class 1 will only apply from 2028-29 onwards.

This means your child’s schooling journey will continue normally and the restructuring won’t affect their promotions or class progression.

Point System for Delhi Class 1 Admission 2026-27

Schools in Delhi widely use a point system to fill admission forms for class 1 in Delhi but points are allocated to children based on different criteria. These points may vary as per school. Here are some of the common points used:

• Distance of the Student from his/her Residence to the School: Proximity to the school will be the most important criterion for Delhi school admissions 2026-27. Each school has a different way of allocating points based on distance. However, most schools have bifurcated points based on the distance of the candidate’s residence to the school. For example:
  • 0-1 km: Highest points (typically 60-70)
  • 1-3 km: Moderate points 
  • 3-8 km and Beyond: Points decrease as the distance increases
• Sibling Quota: If a candidate’s sibling is studying in the same school in the current academic session, schools may allocate points to that candidate.
• Parents being Alumni of the School: Points are allocated to a particular candidate whose parent(s) have been an alumni of the same school (or school group). The points allocated may differ from school to school.

Documents Required For Class 1 Admission in Delhi 2026-27

Here is the list of important documents required to fill online admission form for class 1 in Delhi:

• Passport-size pictures of the child and parents, at least 2 of each
• A print-out of the filled application form, just in case
• A family photo consisting of the parents and the child
• Proof of residence, any two of the following should be kept ready:
  • Ration/Smart Card issued in the name of parents (Mother/Father, having the name of the child).
  • Domicile certificate of the child or his/her parents.
  • Voter I-Card (EPIC) of any of the parents.
  • The latest paid Electricity bill/MTNL telephone bill/Water bill/Passport in the name of any of the parents or child.
  • Aadhaar Card/UID card issued in the name of either of the parents
• Birth Certificate, for proof of age
• Tuition fee receipt of the applicant’s sibling, in case you are applying via the sibling quota
• Proof regarding parents being alumni of the school, for those applying via the alumni criteria
