Removal Of Terms From CBSE Mark Sheet

'Fail' and 'compartment', these two terms will not be further used in any mark sheet from CBSE. Central Board of Secondary Education has recently taken a decision of replacing these two terms with two words 'Essential Repeat' which indicates that the student has to reappear for a particular exam.
Several school authorities, psychologists and students have given their view on how the word 'fail' affected students over the years.

• Derogatory Term
Surender Sachdeva, Principal, DPS Bhopal said that "Fail is a very derogatory term and it has a lasting impact on the student's mind.”
• Psychologically Demoralising
Dr. Prashant Bhimani, psychologist says that words, like fail, are psychologically demoralising. If achievements are personal, similarly a low score is personal too. Thus, they should be told personally that they have to reappear instead of a huge 'F' on their mark sheet.
These changes will surely maintain the level of confidence in students.
