Tilak Ln, Government Officers Colony, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, Delhi - 110003
Mater Dei School for girls, was established in 1956, by the Sisters, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. This Christian Minority School was begun with the primary objective of providing education in a Christian atmosphere to all children, especially Christians. Our aim is personal and integral formation of the young. We make special efforts towards the moral, spiritual, intellectual, social and physical development of children. The motto of our school is “To love through Truth’.
The annual meet of Old Students of Mater Dei (OSAM) was held at Mater Dei School, Tilak Lane, on 16th December 2017. From pass outs of 1967 to recent 2016, all remembered fondly the time spent with the teachers, the experiences and the lessons learnt in the formative years at school. Naughty pranks were recalled amidst much gaiety. Sister Taurina Vaz -the manager and ex principal of the school made each one reflect as she asked- Are you leading meaningful lives? Are you happy? The presence of the senior teachers- Ms. Dawson, Ms. Latif, Ms. Datt, Ms. Susan Bannerjee, Ms. Lamba, Ms. Saha Ghosh, Ms. Sethi, Mr. Khilnani, Mrs. Anita Patrick, Mrs. Ghai, and Mrs. Jennifer Datt made the meeting special for the batches. The retired teachers of 2017 Ms. Supriya Mathur and Mrs. Sunila Rai were honoured by Osam, and the 1992 silver jubilee batch felicitated and given small soveniers by the president of OSAM Sister Stella Joseph. A special cake cutting ceremony marked the occasion. Excited students posed for snaps with their favourite teachers and visited the chapel and classrooms. The MDS song " best among the rest' was sung with fervour under the lead of the composer music teacher Sandra Albuquerque. The volunteer anchor Suparnaa Chhada (1992 batch, of Women Endangered and Simply Suparnaa fame) kept the spirits high by constantly inviting students to share their journey in life and recall fond memories.
The food, music and the sunny afternoon made it a memorable reunion. The new OSAM committee was elected with a renewed vow to keep the values and ethos of the school alive and engage the ex-students in interesting activities under the guidance and support of the Sisters of Mater Dei. The students, teachers and the OSAM Committee appreciated the encouragement, guidance and support given by Sister Stella Joseph, the Principal. To make the OSAM meet an annual feature and giving the students an opportunity to remain connected to the school and each other.
The wide network of successful ex students who have achieved many admirable goals is a solid base and a proof of the holistic education which Mater Dei provides. The aim of OSAM is to make this base strong so that the new may learn and get support when needed from the experienced old students and this chain may continue over years with the name of MATER DEI.
