My daughter was born on 16th May 2022. I want her admission next year in nursery class (1st class - 3 years) but gurgaon schools are saying she will be 2.10 next year. They will admit her in 2026. Delhi schools are ok with this. Why such difference?

The difference in age criteria Between Gurgaon & Delhi schools is due to how they apply The National Education Policy (NEP) & the Department of Education (DOE) guidelines.

  1. According to the NEP guidelines: the children should be a minimum of 3 years old to start pre-primary education.
  2. According to the DOe guidelines: They specify that for nursery admissions, the child should be 3 years old by March 31st of the admission year.

As per the guidelines, the age criteria for nursery admissions in both Gurgaon and Delhi are as follows:

  • Nursery: 3-4 years as of 31st March
  • Kindergarten: 4-5 years as of 31st March
  • Grade 1: 5-6 years as of 31st March

Based on these guidelines, the right age for nursery admission is 3 years as of March 31st of the admission year. Therefore, if your daughter will be 2 years and 10 months next year, she does not fulfill the age criteria for admission to nursery class in any school in Gurgaon or Delhi.

However, if some schools in Delhi are willing to admit your daughter next year, it may be due to an age relaxation policy or other factors. It's important to note that individual schools may or may not have their relaxation policies and other admission factors but in general, she is not eligible for nursery admission.
