The different subjects in Science Stream

According to data from the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), in the academic year 2019-20, around 50% of all undergraduate students in India were enrolled in science programs. The Science stream has some fun and practical collections of subjects to study. Common Science subjects for 11th and 12th as prescribed by CBSE are:

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer: This is the most preferred combination of subjects for students that are interested in the technical, machinery, coding, etc related line and have an inclination towards practical and experimental proficiency.

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology: Some students who are determined enough to go for Medical and its relevant career options are bound to go for Biology in their 11th and 12th. 

CBSE gives students the liberty to keep an optional subject that acts as a saviour in case anything goes wrong. Students not enthusiastic about Mathematics usually choose subjects like Physical Education, etc. for their mandatory subjects and Mathematics as their optional.

Long story short, the students are independent to choose the subjects they are comfortable with and consider taking up as their career option. Another important tip for students of this stream is that just because you are studying several practical subjects, doesn’t mean you get to ignore your English paper. Students usually neglect this subject which ends up lowering their overall percentage. Give equal importance to every subject. 

Each subject of science stream has a mark division of 70-30. The theory portion is of 70 marks and the practical is of 30 marks. Students must score passing marks separately in both papers to fulfil their passing criteria. This is something that needs to be emphasized because the practicals of this stream are sort of exhausting.

Before choosing this stream, the students must be aware of its dynamic and empirical nature. Mugging up and jotting down is not something beneficial in this stream.
