Gingerbread Cookies

Planning to cook something special this Christmas? You can start with these yummy frosted gingerbread cookies. It is made with the tastiest warming spices including ginger and cinnamon and can be a great Christmas snack.

Ginger is an amazing ingredient that has several health benefits. It can cure sore throat and warm up the body. It is also an immunity-boosting ingredient. Cloves can cure nausea and improve dental health. Nutmeg has some amazing antioxidant and antibacterial properties. All in all, these are some amazing ingredients for making a healthy winter snack.

INGREDIENTS

Whole Wheat Flour 3¼ cups
Ground Cinnamon 1 tbsp
Ginger Powder 1 tbsp
Cloves (laung) ¾  tsp
Egg 1
Nutmeg (Jayaphal) ½  tsp
Baking soda ¾  tsp
Molasses (gur) ½ cup
Sugar ½ cup
Butter ¾ cup
Orange Zest (optional) 1
Salt ½ tsp


 

Method :

  1. Whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. Next, take butter and sugar and beat them together until you get a fluffy paste. Then add egg and molasses, and mix them until combined.
  3. Now, gradually add flour mixture in it and mix well.
  4. Divide the dough into two portions and form them each into a ball. Then gently flatten each ball into a 1-inch thick disk and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  5. Once the dough is chilled, unwrap one of them and roll the dough using a rolling pin until it is appx ⅛ inch thick. Then cut out your desired shapes using cookie cutters. For a Christmas theme, you can use gingerbread man, Christmas tree, snowman and Santa shapes.
  6. Now, bake your dough shapes at 350 F until the cookies are light brown crisp around the edges and top. This usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes. After that remove it from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  7. Once the cookies are cooled and are at room temperature, decorate them as you desire with sugar dust or sugar frosting.
