The Pune Municipal Corporation ( PMC ) allowed classroom teaching for students of class 5th to 8th  from February 1, a month after schools were reopened for classes 9 to 12. In this regard, the Municipal Commissioner, Mr Vikram Kumar said that schools can start the regular classroom teaching for class 5 to 8 by following the issued guidelines and the standard operating procedures ( SOPs ) for school reopening. Schools however will have to get consent letters from parents before students can start attending the classes, he added.

According to the guidelines, it is mandatory for both teachings as well as non –teaching staffs to undergo RT-PCR tests for Covid-19. The guidelines further state that the school management should ensure the availability of thermal guns, pulse oximeter, disinfectants, sanitisers etc as well as sanitize the school vehicle twice a day, while classrooms and washrooms to be sanitized frequently.

Seating arrangement in classrooms and staff rooms should be made in such a manner to follow the physical distancing guidelines. The schools have also been directed to put up posters and stickers to raise awareness on the need for social distancing.
