According to the Remote Learning Reachability report issued by UNICEF, only 24% of Indian families have internet access for online learning. Further, the rural-urban and gender divide widens the learning gap in terms of their social class.

The report further says, learners especially girls from underprivileged households don't have access to smartphones and even if they do, then too, internet connectivity is very bad. Additionally, quality educational content is not available in the vernacular language.

It suggests, “School opening policies and practices must include expanding access to education, including remote learning, especially for marginalised groups. Education systems must also be adapted and built to withstand future crises."
