The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC) on Tuesday in the virtual presence of Thawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank'. It provides for the availability of textbooks and educational material for deaf children in sign language.

Gehlot stated that the inclusion of such textbooks in Indian sign language in the NCERT curriculum would provide access to hearing-impaired children in education as well as be resourceful for teachers, parents, and hearing impaired communities in general.
