There is a direct link between well-being and academic achievement, i.e. well-being is a crucial prerequisite for achievement and achievement is essential for well-being. There are a number of different types of well-being, all of which need to be promoted to some extent to create an overall sense of well-being in a person. Childhood and adolescence is a critical period in the development of long-term attitudes towards personal well-being and lifestyle choices. Leading national education organizations recognize the close relationship between health and education, as well as the need to foster health and well-being within the educational environment for all students. Facets of wellbeing, such as gratitude, hope, and emotional regulation, have been found to improve academic performance across several areas. Health-risk behaviors such as obesity, mental health issues, and improper lifestyle are consistently linked to poor grades and test scores and lower educational attainment. We have with us Mr. Ghanshyam N. Sanesar, Principal of First Step Junior School to talk on “The link between academics & overall well-being of children”. He has 14 years of experience as an educator.
