Kids love art activities and a lot of learning happens in the process. Art & craft is the first exposure of a child to the world of creativity. Here are some of the activities that we love doing at home:
Shaving-Cream Art: Let your child spray some shaving cream on a tray. Then add a few drops of food colours in different colours. Let him blend the colours and see interesting designs emerge.
Musical Magic: Ask your child to collect objects from around the house of different sizes like empty tins, cups etc. Give him 2 pieces of stick or plastic spoons. Let him make music as he pleases. You can talk about how different objects bring out different sounds. Using different types of sticks spoons produces different sounds.
Raised Salt Painting: In a tray, place an A4 sized piece of cardboard. Get your child to squeeze designs with glue on it. Sprinkle salt all over till the glue is completely covered. Dip into watercolours with a dropper and add a few drops of paint on the board. Watch the paint travel in all directions.
Natural Arrangements: Go around the park with a basket and let your child collect dried flowers, leaves, twigs and pebbles. Bring them back home, and ask your child to make designs with them.
Back-and-Forth Drawing Game: This can be done with two or more kids. On a chart paper, let one kid draw whatever he can think of. Then each kid draws off the previous kid’s drawing.
Object Printmaking: Collect everyday objects like sponges, bottle caps, marker caps, wood pieces, vegetable and fruit peels or slices, leaves. Dip the different items on liquid paint and make unique imprints on a chart paper.
Clay modelling: Provide some natural clay to your child and let him create what he pleases.
Marble painting: In a tray, insert a chart paper. Drop a few drops of poster colours in different colors. Drop 6-7 six marbles into the tray. Move the tray in different directions. The marbles will move around and create interesting designs on the paper.
Art has an important role to play in a child’s overall development. So make the most of it!
