Cow Vs Buffalo Milk

Milk is highly nutritious for children. It is high in calcium content and hence great for developing strong bones and teeth. But as parents, we often wonder whether it is better to offer cow milk or buffalo milk to our child. Whole milk from a cow has about 4% fat.In many nations, milk marketing is primarily centred on fat content. Whole milk has 3.25% fat, reduced fat milk has 2% fat, and low fat milk has 1% fat in the United States. Milk fat is one of the most complex natural fats, with around 400 different types of fatty acids. Whole milk is heavy in saturated fats, which account for over 70% of its fatty acid composition.Polyunsaturated fats are present in trace amounts, accounting for about 2.3% of total fat content. The rest is made up of monounsaturated fats, which account for around 28% of total fat composition.

Here we give you the differences between the two:

  1. Fat content: Cow milk contains 3-4 percent of fat, whereas buffalo milk contains 7-8 percent. Hence, cow milk is easier to digest and better suited for babies and elderly people.
  2. Water content:  90% of Cow milk is water. Due to its high water content, it is excellent for hydration.
  3. Protein content:  Buffalo milk is very high in protein content and hence it is not recommended for small children and the elderly.
  4. Cholesterol: Cow milk has more cholesterol compared to buffalo milk. It is useful in reducing obesity in children, protection from thyroid diseases, and cardiovascular health.
  5. Calorie content: 1 cup of buffalo milk contains 237 calories, and 1 cup of cow milk contains 148 calories.
  6. Useful in making sweets: Being less creamy, cow milk is preferred as a healthier option for making sweet preparations.

While both types of milk are beneficial, cow milk is better suited for children as it is easier to digest, has high water content and low amount of protein as compared to buffalo milk.
