Respiratory ailments are the most common cause of illness in children. And winter provides the ideal environment for the pathogens to easily spread, thus predisposing kids to acute respiratory infections.As parents, you must make sure you inculcate good hygiene practices like washing of hands and coughing into a tissue

 

Here are some common myths:

Myth: Children need antibiotics every time they get a runny nose.

Fact: No antibiotics are needed because the majority of metastasis illnesses are due to cold and contagion viruses. Excess consumption of antibiotics will result in overdosage and antibiotic resistance in kids.

Myth: Children will catch coughs and cold from not wearing a jacket in cold weather.

Fact: Cough and colds are caused by viruses, not weather conditions. They can still play while not catching a cold.

Some preventive measures:

* Avoid people who have a cold or other related problems like fever.

* Avoid packed places.

Being prepared for winter ailments:

– Dry skin: Cold, dry air throughout winter will cause dry skin. Applying moisturizer and balm will resupply moisture and additionally treat dry skin.

– Asthma: Weather conditions will cause respiratory illness attacks, that is why respiratory illness relief medicines are necessary to use. If respiratory illness worsens, it should be time to use respiratory illness preventing drugs.

There are, however, some signs that need immediate medical attention:

* Sleeping problems

* Weakness
