Digital content from Discovery Education and its partners is available to families and
students worldwide on the first International Social and Emotional Learning Day, which
recognizes the importance of social and emotional learning (SEL) for both students and
communities. 
SEL has been defined as “the process through which children and adults understand and
manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish
and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions”. Not only can each and
every one of us choose to see our everyday lives through a more informed lens, but we can
equip educators to do the same for the betterment of future generations.
In a world where increasingly complicated current events are creating barriers in our lives
that affect us all the way down to the level of interpersonal communication, it is more
important than ever that we remember to embrace each other with social-emotional
empathy every chance we get.
