Delhi Government directed its schools to engage all guest teachers hired in the last academic year. The engagement of some 20,000 odd guest teachers was left uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This comes as a relief as these teachers are paid per day of work.

Earlier, the government schools were authorised to involve 50% teaching and non-teaching staff from September 21. It was done for the smooth running of teaching, learning and assessment activities for online learning and tele counselling, etc. In the new order issued by Directorate of Education, all Heads of Government Schools are directed to engage all such guest teachers within three days. This is to ensure smooth functioning of schools and will be subject to the availability of vacancies in their schools.

In July, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that guest teachers would be re-engaged as part of the remote-teaching plan. The education department had then directed all Heads of Schools to “engage willing guest teachers and contract instructors, wherever required, for online teaching-learning activities.”
