Is it true that the sooner we quit holding the baby, the faster they crawl?

It is up to certain extent true. But if you cannot except child to start crawling at 2 to 3 months of age. So with proper care you should stop holding kid slowly and gradually.

Not really, the important thing is that you should practice with your baby and hold them less so they don't cry when you're too busy to hold them.
