Every parent wants their child to excel not only in studies but also in life. And they need to know that this can only be achievable through good experiences and learning. Hence, schools play a vital role in building a good base for the child. So, it is necessary to know how a different education system can help their child nurture. And that’s why a new educational approach to teaching is introduced nowadays which is Holistic Education. Now let’s see what do we mean by it.
Holistic Education is an approach to teaching that focuses on the academic and social needs of students. The educators seek to fulfil the academic requirements of the students. And teach them the right methods by which they can face the challenges of life. They try to engage all aspects of the learner including the mind, spirit, and body. It necessitates skill mastery and advancement in all four domains. By the age of three, a child's brain has grown to 80% of its adult size. By the age of five, 90% of a child's brain has grown, allowing him or her to retain information more efficiently and swiftly. In this educational approach, the emphasis is on the positive environment of the schools. And also, on the thinking abilities of the students with their positive social behaviours.
Now let’s have a look at strategies:
A study on the condition of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECC and E) in Botswana discovered a lack of a prescribed curriculum and a very low rate of formal training of ECE instructors. As a result, given the current circumstances, it was vital to learn about the alternative training methods made available to working ECE teachers as well as the existing classroom practices. This section of the study mapped the perspectives of teachers working in ECE centres, as evidenced by their in-service training, classroom practises, and. The survey included 39 teachers from 39 ECE centres in the surrounding area. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect their opinions. The data was analysed using a quantitative approach. According to the report, over 60% of in-service teachers attended ECE workshops as an alternate training option.
Nonetheless, the analysis revealed that the workshop content needs to be improved. It was also discovered that just 54% of teachers promoted holistic development, which catered to physical, cognitive, emotional, and social domains concurrently. In contrast, the rest promoted merely a combination of some of the developmental components, completely ignoring some key ones at times. The data also revealed that, in comparison to the other areas, a larger emphasis was placed on the development of physical aspects.
Now, if you are wondering about the benefits of this approach? Then let’s have a look at them as well.
