On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha launched an application for mainstreaming and tracking out-of-school children (OOSC). And the director of Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha, Dr. Arun Manhas launched the app. The name of the app is “Talaash.” The OOSC program aims to keep a track of OOSC promptly through data analysis and monitoring.

The spokesman said that the application can be used on Smartphones by teachers and others. And it will facilitate the effective monitoring and of out-of-school children, as they are identified in schools and special training programs.

The Union territory has an estimated 27,500 out-of-school children. And these children comprise two categories that are never enrolled and dropouts. Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, MHRD clarification on provisions of RTE Act, 2009, and MoE guidelines on special training, there are various provisions for mainstreaming of OOSC.
