Over 42000 government schools lack drinking water, and 15000 Toilets

The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said, on Thursday, that over 42000 government schools across the country do not have drinking water facilities. And more than 15000 schools have no Toilets. 


The statistics were quoted by the minister from Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) in response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha. 


He wrote in the reply to the question.


That as per the UDISE, 2018-2019, out of 10,83,747  government schools in the country. 10,41,327 government schools have a drinking water facility and 10,68,726 government schools have toilets.  


The minister further added that the States and Union Territories are advised to ensure that all the schools, including the non-government sector in their jurisdiction, should have separate toilets for boys and girls. And safe drinking water facilities.
