A habit in your kid might bother or even concern you, yet, it's just a normal phase in the developmental process of your child. However, nail-biting is a habit that needs much concern. An estimated 30 to 60 per cent of kids and teens bite nails.
So, here is how you can cope with this habit of nail-biting in your kid.

• Point them out that what is actually wrong in this habit. Don't scold or give a lecture to them. But do it calmly by telling them what are the cons of biting nails.

• Involve your child in the process of breaking this habit. Give them the leadership, and ask them what can be done to break this habit.

• It might happen that they start biting their nails subconsciously without even giving much attention to it. So, bring their attention to this thing. Not in a criticising way but just a reminder.

• Whenever you see their good behaviour or improvement in this habit, praise them. It will help in encouraging them.

• Further, it may not sound too good but, some homemade bitter edible juices such as juice of garlic or neem leaves can be applied on the nails to prevent chewing them.
