The Eco-Schools Waste Management Programme (EcoWaM) was launched at Gems International School, Gurgaon in December 2020 beginning with the core theme of Waste Management. The initiative was aimed to involve middle school students to create leaders, increase awareness, knowledge, commitment, and potential to meet the challenges of waste management in their spheres of influence.

A National level virtual ceremony was organized by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) for the winning schools under the EcoWaM program on 23rd April 2021. Ms. Pawani Agrawal of Grade VI B who is one of the GEMS Geniuses got selected and made their way to the finals in the category – “Video on waste management related to handprint action”.
It was a tough selection since 60 schools all across India had participated in the EcoWaM project yet GEMS International School, Gurugram was honored with the ‘Best Performing School’ Award in the EcoWaM project. The award was declared virtually on National Award Felicitation Ceremony conducted by CEE.
