In response to the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday instructed schools and other educational institutions to remain closed till January 30th.
However, online classes will continue based on an order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Awanish Kumar Awasthi.
This comes after Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath chaired a review meeting on the state of covid cases in UP. The UP govt decided to close its schools’ doors for students till 10th standard following a rise in COVID-19 cases in the state On Jan 5.
Schools had earlier been closed till January 16th, which was later extended to January 23rd.
In the last 24 hours, UP has reported over 18,000 fresh Covid cases and this has been the case almost every day for the past week. Schools are expected to continue functioning as vaccine centers for ages 15 to 18.
