A pregnant woman needs a lot of care for herself and the baby inside her. As a woman conceives, there are a lot of things that need to be cared for, things that were not important earlier. Even before a woman decides that she is ready to conceive a child, there are certain tests that need to be in order to make sure that everything is okay for the mother and the baby.
- General check-up: Get a general check-up done by your doctor. Discuss topics like health, weight, medical history, nutrition, menstrual cycle, birth control and lifestyle habits.
- Blood Test for a Genetic Disorder: Genetic disorders can get passed on from the mother to the child. You might also be suffering from genetic diseases of a certain kind without even knowing.\
- Glucose Test: Excess level of sugar in a woman’s body can lead to stillbirths and excessive fetal growth. Obesity might also be a sign of diabetes.
- Thyroid Function Test: A lack of thyroid hormone can cause problems in the growth of the fetus. Also, even an excess of the thyroid hormone can be equally harmful.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections: Many STIs are generally hard to identify at an early age. But if not cured, these can cause infertility or even affect the baby’s health during the pregnancy.
- Mental Health Check-Up: A person’s mental well-being is as important as their physical health. Consult a doctor if you or your spouse has a history of any mental problem.
