Breastmilk is the best nutritional food for an infant. However, because of other responsibilities, many times it isn't possible for mothers to directly breastfeed their child every time. Hence, they decide to store their breast milk to feed their babies. Here are some queries and their answers related to expressed breastmilk.

Where to store?

  • It should be stored in breast milk storage bags or food-grade glass container. Never store breast milk in plastic bags or disposable bottle liners.
  • Wash your hands and the area as well before pumping the milk.
  • You can store it at the back of the refrigerator or in the freezer.
  • Do not fill the container to its neck as breast milk expands when freezes.

How much?
Breast milk should be stored in a quantity of 60 to 120ml for babies who are over 2 weeks old and 90 to 150 ml for 1 month to 6 months old.

How long it can be stored?

If it's on room temperature than it should be consumed within 4 to 6 hours. However, if stored in a refrigerator, it can be used for 5-6 days as, the fresher it is, the better it is.
