It was not surprising that cut-offs for admission to UG courses in DU were so high. In the first list released by DU, some colleges fix a 100% cutoff for admission in some courses.

As per the AISHE 2018-19 survey, Delhi's gross enrollment ratio stands at 46.3%. This means that every second youth aged between 18 to 23 is enrolled in higher education institutions. But there is not an adequate number of these institutions. This resulted in very high cutoff marks.

India has committed to SDG 2030 ensuring 100% GER in primary and secondary schools. Towards this goal, it is essential that additional 35 million seats are created clear in HEIs. The cut-offs are already unreasonably high. At this rate, the Indian education system can go worse.

NEP 2020 recommends a higher education ecosystem consisting of large multi-disciplinary HEIs. In multidisciplinary colleges, the education colleges will move away from affiliation into degree-granting HIEs.
