Schoolteachers employed in areas that are still under lockdown or those that cannot travel to regions to rejoin duty, can
now work from home, the government has said. Although the academic year is set to begin only on July 1, government teachers were asked to report to schools to prepare for the new year.Many teachers, particularly ones in North Karnataka, had returned to their hometowns to be with their families when the lockdown was levied.With the government asking teachers in state-run schools to report to duty from Tuesday, many tutors were left in a binddue to non-availability of conveyance services.
Many teachers working in North Karnataka are from Mandya, Mysuru, Kodagu, Udupi Dakshina Kannada Hassan, and .Moreover, a dozen districts are still under lockdown.
However, on Monday, the department of public instructions issued orders saying teachers who were stuck in their
hometowns could report for duty on June 21, and those in districts which are still under lockdown can work from home.
Sources say the government may allow limited operations of bus services from Monday or it will arrange for teachers to
travel to the districts where they work. Until then, they are expected to work from home.
