HRD Minister Launches Educational Portal ‘SHAGUN’

Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launches a school educational portal 'Shagun' on Wednesday.

Shagun' aims to integrate over 2.3 lakh educational websites and to provide every information on school education.

The web portal links 15 lakh schools across the country. These schools have been geo-tagged due to which all the data provided by them is accessible through 'Shagun'. According to the officials, there will be third party verification of information provided by schools.

Nishank while talking about the portal said, “The progress of the country is dependent on education and the foundation of education needs to be solid. Shagun is an important initiative and through this portal, more than 2.3 lakh educational websites can be integrated.”

Report cards of 15 lakh schools across the country will be available on 'Shagun'.The new portal connects approximately 92 lakh teachers and 26 crore students where common people can share their reviews about the school which will increase public participation and will ensure accountability and transparency.

The new portal 'Shagun' integrates websites of 1200 Kendriya Vidhyalaya,600 Navodaya Vidhyalaya,18,000 CBSE affiliated schools,30 SCERTS schools and 19,000 organizations affiliated with NCTE.

"The single source of information will immensely benefit all the stakeholders, including parents and the general public, heads of schools, teachers, students, the policymakers, the officials and the researchers. The website also provides vital information relating to the availability of nearby schools, navigable distance vis-a-vis aerial distance between schools" Nishank said.

1. Since common people can share their opinions and views on any school it will bring more public participation and transparency

2. Other parents who want to know about any school can refer to the opinions of others shared on the school which will help them in having a realistic picture of the school.

3. It will help researchers to analyze the education system and different schools

4. Report cards of 15 lakh school will also be published. This can also help researchers for their research purpose.

5. The website will provide information about navigable distance from the school which will help parents to know schools nearby to them

6. It is a common platform which connects parents, students and educational websites on a large number.

7. Future of a nation depends on the education of the present generation and this website will promote education and make education convenient for the country.
