On April 15, the Central Board of Secondary Education declared the CBSE Class 10 Board Results 2026 with an overall pass percentage of 93.70%, a marginal uptick from last year's 93.66%. While students across the country were celebrating festivals like Baishakhi, or Bihu, or Ugadi, some households celebrated the board results, while a few celebrations were marred by results that were below expectations.

What’s interesting about the CBSE 10th results this year is that it marks a significant shift from the “rote memorisation” era. 50% of the question papers this year featured competency-based questions, and with a pass percentage of 93.70%, students proved that they were indeed able to apply their learning to real-world concepts.

Implementing Phase II as per NEP 2020

Under the two-phase board examination system that CBSE formally rolled out in June 2025 in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, students now have a structured second opportunity to improve their scores in up to three subjects. The Phase 2 exams are scheduled from May 15 to June 1, 2026. Mathematics is on May 15, Science on May 19, and Social Science on May 22.

The policy works on a "best of two" principle. If a student scores higher in the May exam, that score goes on the final certificate. However, if the second attempt goes worse, the original marks stand. CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh estimated that around 40% of candidates could appear in the second exam in at least one major subject.

Students can only re-appear in subjects they originally attempted, and no subject changes are permitted. Those who skipped Phase 1 altogether cannot enter Phase 2. CBSE has also clarified that internal assessment marks from the first exam cannot be revised under any circumstances; only the theory component is re-attempted.

CBSE has also launched a free psychosocial counselling programme for students and parents, active from January 16 through June 1, 2026. It is designed specifically for the anxiety, stress, and career uncertainty that surround board results. CBSE-trained counsellors handle calls during this window, covering both academic and emotional concerns.

Students and parents can access the service through CBSE's official channels.

For those satisfied with their marks, Class 11 stream registration begins soon. For those who are not, the LOC correction window for Phase 2 registration runs from April 16 to 20, and the Phase 2 exam fee starts at Rs 320 per subject for students in India.

For the students who did not clear the exams, the Board will conduct supplementary exams in July. These exams now allow students to improve their scores in up to two subjects, providing a vital safety net that keeps their academic year on track.

Results are available on cbseresults.nic.in , through the DigiLocker app, and via the UMANG platform. Students who appeared in the compartment category can also verify their eligibility for Phase 2 through their respective schools.

Looking Ahead: Class 11 Admissions

For most families, the results conversation will quickly shift from marks to the next big decision: which school, which stream, and which environment will best set up a student for the two years ahead. Class 11 is where academics become more of a priority in deciding the future course of action, and the school a student joins matters as much as the stream they choose.

Parents looking to explore admission options across schools can browse listings, compare facilities, and shortlist the right fit for their child on ezyschooling.com. Finding the right school is of crucial importance, so start looking for schools now and secure a bright future ahead!
