With women empowerment and upliftment as its cornerstone, Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya was established in 1914 by Shri Mahonlal Jalan to promote girl child education in Kolkata. The goal of the visionary leader and educationist was to empower women from every section of society through education. He has left a rich legacy behind. Starting with only four girl children, today, the school boasts 2500 students.

The school uses modern pedagogy, advanced learning techniques such as the VAKT (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactical) method and teaching materials to make the classes engaging and effective.

Besides academic enhancement, the school focuses on the holistic development of every child and organises several extracurricular activities and outreach programs. The students’ emotional, mental and physical well-being is also nurtured through systematic and modern approaches.
