Dehradun , the capital city of Uttrakhand, was also the training centre of Guru Dronacharya where he imparted training on warfare to the Pandavas and Kouravas in Mahabharata days is considered as the home of Dronacharya where he had his warfare school and the place named after him. It is since then the place became famous for learning. Most of the famous secondary school of the country is located either in Dehradun or its adjoining places. It is not surprising that institutions like Indian Military Academy (IMA), Forest Research Institute are located in Dehradun. The conducive weather, connectivity, the picturesque location and local tradition is always an attraction for those who wanted to start an educational institution in Dehradun. The Mann family of Dehradun ,an advocate by profession got highly motivated with all these favorable conditions and decided to start a school at Curzon road where many other famous secondary schools are located. It was in the year 1984 the journey of Doon International School (DIS) took off. It was a flying start and the journey thereafter never looked back. Another DIS was opened at a later at a place adjacent to Dehradun. Over a period of time DIS opened a few more DIS at Mohali in Punjab, J&K and other places.
