The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” These words of Martin Luther King Jr. ignited a dream born out of passion in some hearts. Thus began the journey of “Suburban Educational Society” that runs and manages “St. Xavier’s Institution”. The first tottering steps that the newborn dream took showed the promise it held for the society in general. It all began on the 1st of July, 1967 and there was no looking back. From the “Toddlers”, the dream named “St. Xavier’s Institution” grew with her students, each year taking both the students and their Alma mater towards the fulfillment of the next dream. Imparting the best quality education to the children was just one aspect of the Institution and the Society. Taking care of the students and the staff, helping students of other schools who were from economically challenged families, finding and rewarding meritorious students in the locality and beyond, providing medical help to those who needed it doing their bit for the preservation of the environment and standing by those stricken by natural calamities comprise the spectrum of activities that were undertaken by it to carry out the responsibility it had taken up itself to do its part for the upliftment of mankind. This English medium Co-Educational institution has duly been recognized by the Department of Education, Government of West Bengal and is affiliated to the CISCE, Delhi. Each new dawn on the horizon of Academia has brought a new feather in the highly adorned cap of the school. The pupils have excelled in every field of activity, both scholastic and non-scholastic that have been integral parts of the brewing ground of dreams named St. Xavier’s Institution. The alumni, as well as the faculty, carry the incredible mark of loving nurture that they receive here throughout their lives. That is why the school boasts of having second and third generations of students. The institution has made it a matter of routine to produce national and zonal toppers in the board of examinations namely ICSE and ISC through the years since its inception. The inherent physical, mental and spiritual strength of the children is also nurtured and built up to make education a “man-making and character-building” endeavor as evinced by Swami Vivekananda
