Thomas T Roy

Thomas T Roy

Secretary

As we navigate these challenging times, I find strength in the words: “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood more, so that we may fear less” and “A life lived in fear is a life half lived.” These thoughts have been a source of courage and gratitude, and I hope they resonate with you too. While many families continue to face difficulties, our thoughts and prayers are with them. We’ve been given a rare opportunity to slow down and reconnect—with our families, with ourselves, and with those we may have lost touch with. Let’s use this time to grow, reflect, support others, and simply be present. The world has changed, and so has the way we learn and live; change has truly become the new normal. At Somerville School (NOIDA), the management has remained motivated, embracing technology to foster creativity and learning in every home. Let us hold onto hope, continue to uplift one another, and until we meet again—stay safe, stay well.

Chairperson & Director

Greetings to the Principals, Staff, Students, and Parents of Somerville Schools!
The year 2020–21 will long be remembered for the unprecedented challenges it brought. As the nation adjusted to lockdowns, social distancing, and health crises, schools were suddenly thrust into the world of online learning—a concept unfamiliar and daunting for many. Yet, Somerville Schools rose to the occasion. With determination, our management swiftly collaborated with IT professionals, prepared our Computer Departments, and began the transition. Though questions loomed—did all teachers have the required devices? Could students access online classes? Would the system work?—we pressed forward. Teachers learned from one another, adapting to new technologies with resilience, commitment, and collaboration. Amidst personal struggles—job losses, work-from-home challenges, supervising children, device shortages, and strained internet—our community stood strong. As Benjamin Disraeli wisely said, “There is no education like adversity,” and our Principals, teachers, students, and parents proved this with their unwavering spirit. We thank God for His guidance through these testing times and acknowledge the efforts of every individual who made this journey possible. Yet, the journey is not over. Let us continue to support each other, work with unity, and pray for a swift return to normalcy. Until then, be careful, stay well, and stay safe.

As we continue to reel under the aftermath of an unprecedented crisis, we are reminded that “No man is an island”—we all need one another to lean on, especially in times like these. The pandemic has touched every family in some way, and our hearts go out to each of you facing these difficult days. Yet, even in the midst of sorrow and struggle, we must find strength in unity and compassion, encouraging and uplifting one another as we strive to create a nurturing, collaborative learning environment for our children. Though these times have often felt dark and joyless, there is a glimmer of hope at the end of this long tunnel, urging us to move forward with faith. I extend my heartfelt wishes to the Principal, Teachers, Students, and Parents of our Somerville Schools—for continued health, happiness, and strength. May the Almighty Lord protect, guide, and bless our schools always.

“The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where He gives me repose.” Each day at Somerville School, NOIDA begins with unwavering faith in the Lord, our good shepherd, who lovingly watches over us. The school stands as a symbol of those green pastures—a place where children grow, explore, and thrive in safety and joy. Here, their well-being is our utmost priority. Under the guidance of experienced teachers, students enjoy a harmonious blend of academics and extracurricular pursuits, laying a strong foundation for life, one step at a time. With the steadfast support of our parents and the boundless energy of our children, we continue building a stairway to the sky, trusting that the Lord watches over every step. As Psalm 121:5–8 assures us: “The LORD watches over you… The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.” May this divine protection always surround our Somerville family.

The Lord will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” —Isaiah 33:2–6. As the wise say, rough waters make skilled sailors—just as ships, though safest near the shore, are built to brave the open seas. In the same way, while we long for the safety and comfort of our homes during times like the Covid-19 pandemic, it is the courage granted by the Almighty that helps us face life's storms. These very challenges shape us, refine us, and mold us into stronger, wiser individuals. The pandemic has been one of the most difficult chapters in our lives, but now, as our students return to school, we pray they embrace this new beginning with renewed energy, purpose, and joy—excelling in both academics and extracurriculars, and making a mark for themselves, their families, and Somerville School. We also pray for strength and renewed zeal for all our dedicated staff, that they may continue their work with passion and perseverance. And let us all remember: Make today and tomorrow so awesome, that you make yesterday jealous.
