Sitaram Poddar Balika Vidhyalaya is one of the Institutes of Marwadi Sammelan. This school was established in 1916 when educating the girl child was not a prevalent practice The strong pillars of this Vidyalaya were Shri. Sitaram Poddarji, seth Shri Rameshwardasji Birla, Shri. Gajananji Modi, Shri Govinddasji Pitti and Shri. Vallabhdasji Dammani. Since then the school has been doing wonders for the girl child. The school is affiliated to the SSC Board. The school, being a completely aided school, charges no fees for the students if they meet the criteria. The school has been attaining good result in previous years. Free computer education is provided by Sparsh sansthan conducted by Mr. Milindji Deora.Academics THE PRIMARY SECTION (STD I TO IV) The Primary Syllabus has been modified for more flexibility and the main focus is on developing reading, writing and speaking skills. The syllabus followed will be as prescribed by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. A variety of extra-curricular activities like music, art, craft etc will help each child to discover his/her creative spark. Parent and teacher interaction will be held at frequent intervals to help parents keep track of their wards progress. The house system channelizes discipline in school life and helps to promote & competitive spirit and healthy attitude towards sports and other arts. The elected house prefects and leaders will be able to develop better leadership qualities. Students are encouraged to appear for the Middle School Scholarship Exams conducted by the Government of Maharashtra THE SECONDARY SECTION (STD V & X) Students stepping into the secondary section learn to be more independent. Hence they are taught a wider range of subjects. The school follows the textbooks and courses prescribed by the Maharashtra State Board Of Secondary Education. Learning is student centred and the child is encouraged to learn by doing, through project work, discussions, Computers etc. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is followed for the students of all classes. The academic session is divided into two terms and each term will comprise of two Unit Tests and a Semester. The Final result will be based on the performance throughout the year. Students will be encouraged to appear for the elementary drawing exams and other exams in Math’s, Science, Marathi etc. conducted by Maharashtra Government. Activities The school celebrates various festivals and important days in Indian days such as Janmashtami, Independence Day, Dusherra, Holi, Diwali and Hindi Diwas. The Balachar Sanstha of the school got recognition from the Indian Scouts and Guides (Bombay) in 1961. The students of our school have won many inter-school prizes and awards. Competitions such as fancy dress competitions and physical fitness are conducted and the winners rewarded. We also conduct courses in stitching, drawing cooking and music by experts, within the school premises, with an aim to enable all-round development of girls.
