The sharanas of 12th century led by Basaveshwar launched the new religion and social revolution doing away with all inhuman practices. They converted the degraded society into a new society of social enlightenment, based on the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Basaveshwar in a way was more modern than many modern thinkers, insisting rationality as a valuable aid to the human life. The revolution of this sort was never witnessed in any part of the world for the establishment of society based on equality.
