The government schools in UP has decided to promote the students up to class 8 without conducting the annual promotional exams. This is happening for the 2nd consecutive year in UP as the annual exams in 2020 were cancelled due to the pandemic. Last year, the students had to be promoted based on internal assessments due to the pandemic.

However, this year, the students up to class 8 will be promoted based on their performance throughout the entire academic year. Although the online classes for this academic session began in July last year, many students of the government schools belonged to economically weaker sections and weren’t able to attend the online classes. Offline classes started just around February to March for the students up too class 8.

Because of this, the assessment of the students’ performance will be done based on a 10-day ‘Prerna Gyanotsav Programme’ for the students of class 8 and lower. Additional Chief Secretary of Education, UP, Renuka Kumar said, “We are running a 100-day Prerna Gyanotsav Programme for children up to class 8. The students will be assessed on this and promoted to the next class.
