Schools are now long shut since the covid-19 pandemic hit the country. The government has started planning on reopening of schools once the situation gets under control. Meanwhile, a major proposal has been submitted by NCERT which includes a tentative list of guidelines to be followed after the schools re-open.
According to the draft submitted by NCERT, all students shall not be called together once the schools re-open, rather an odd-even formula will be implemented based on roll numbers and classes will be held in shifts. There ought to be a time gap of 10 minutes each, according to the classes, in the time students reach the premises. Moreover, it has been suggested that considering the norms of social distancing, classes shall be held in open grounds instead of the classrooms. Following are some of the major proposals submitted for approval:
Schools to be opened in 6 stages:
The first phase- Classes of 11 and 12 will commence
The second phase (1 week later)-Commencement of classes 9 and 10
The third phase (2 weeks later)-Classes 6 to 8 will begin
The fourth phase (3 weeks later)-Classes 3 to 5 will start
Fifth phase (4 weeks later)-Classes 1 and 2 shall begin
Sixth and last phase (5 weeks later)-Nursery and KG classes will be started but only with the consent of parents.
