Jammu Govt Introduces ‘Happiness Zones’ In Schools To Promote Mental Health

In order to provide psychological support to students in times of Covid, ‘Happiness Zones’ have been established in more than 1000 government schools in Jammu.

These special zones have been created keeping in mind the needs of the children and according to directions of education in the state. More such zones will soon be established following the return of all students to physical classes, an official said.

This special initiative will soon also be seen in most primary, secondary and high schools in the state. The aim of these ‘Happiness Zones’ is to cater to providing psychological support and to make counselling accessible for all students.

Experienced and Trained counsellors will be leading this initiative, following guidelines provided by Mandorpan. Mandorpan is an initiative of the Ministry of Education that aims to provide psycho-social support and counselling to students for their mental health and well-being during the Covid outbreak and beyond.

Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director of School Education, Jammu said students coming to schools after such a long gap may experience a heightened level of stress, anxiety, and fearfulness along with a wide range of other emotional and behavioural issues due to the Covid situation.

We need to be prepared to offer students a healthy and psychologically safe environment to safeguard them. The happiness of the child is directly linked with academic outcomes and to improve attention, retention of students we have to ensure mental health, safety and security of students”, he said.
