Government proposes to set up University of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences

The government has planned a gaggle from a first of its kind university covering the complete gamut of disability studies and rehabilitation sciences in an accessible atmosphere.

On 24 December notice was issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), beneath the Ministry of Social Justice and empowerment, has invited comments on drafting the bill to line up university from the stakeholders. 

“The projected university, the first of its kind, ar planning to be a unique multidisciplinary educational institution conducting research, programs, and courses from bachelor’s level onward to cater to varied disciplines covering the whole gamut of disability studies and rehabilitation sciences in an accessible atmosphere,” the DEPwD said.

This university will have eight departments- disability studies, rehabilitation sciences, otology and speech-language pathology, special education, psychology, nursing, orthotics and prosthetics and assistive technology, and inclusive and universal design.
