Many students wanted to appear for entrance exams but the anxiety, economic disturbance, and uncertain exam dates are opening doors for a gap year.

"With the lockdown paralyzing several industries and causing job cuts and high unemployment, several parents want students to reconsider their career paths. In this situation, taking a gap year can benefit in charting out a future course," says Swati Salunkhe, career counselor. He adds that how students should be very clear in their minds before taking this decision and the universities will demand for fresh character certificate as well as other formalities regarding gap year.

Teacher counselor with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Rajesh Vashishth suggests the competition for admission in colleges will increase next year and so it is better not to drop a year due to the pandemic and to go ahead only if it was a pre-planned decision.
